Support WA's Whitewater Park Campaign

Australian Canoeing, Wednesday, 14 September 2005

Canoeing WA has been expressing the community's concern over the loss of white water rivers for rafting and canoeing. Read on...

The campaign for WA's White Water Park has been ongoing for the last 5 years and we are now entering a crucial stage.

7 of the 10 significant white water rivers between Perth and Bunbury have been lost!!

The Sunday Times recently ran a story on the loss of rivers for white water sport and recreation in their September 11 edition on page 27. The rivers have been lost as a result of dam building by Water Corporation. You can read the article at www.whitewaterperth.org.au/common/www-graphics/SundayTimes110905.pdf

Of particular concern is the Harvey River where the Harvey International Slalom Course is no longer available. This was recognised as one of the best natural slalom courses in the world. Its closure has forced our top slalom athletes to move to the eastern states to remain competitive.

If you are concerned about the loss of white water rivers and would like to support the proposal to build a white water park please email the Sunday Times, Water Corporation and Bob Kucera, Minister for Sport and Recreation expressing your concerns and supporting the proposed White Water Park.

Thanks for your support.
